Twin Medix Pro: Refine Moisturizer Refine #indiefeature

Before I begin this review, I need to disclose that this product was sent to me by TwinMedix. I was not compensated in any way to promote this product or write a positive review, all opinions shared are that of my own opinion.
Hello everyone, I'm really excited to write this review! I know I say that often, but today's quite the exception. Today's review was made possible by another article I wrote back in 2018 "Medix Beauty App Review". TwinMedix launched their online educational app a couple years ago under the name Medix Beauty which I was quick to review. Despite my criticisms of their app at the time, TwinMedix was very appreciative of my honesty and we've continued shooting messages back and forth since my initial article. They asked me about a month ago if I would like to receive a PR package and I was more than happy to oblige. Any company willing to use criticism to better their product and continue working with honest influencers earns a point in my book!
The Pro: Refine Moisturizer was designed with makeup artists in mind to not only prime the skin by plumping and firming, but to add a subtle glow and moisture for 24 hours. The moisturizer can be used day or night on a clean, dry face and is free of parabens and fragrance. You also get the option to choose between two sizes, a 1 oz/ 30 mL bottle for $18 or a 2 oz/ 60 mL for $30. TwinMedix is cruelty free, vegan, and made in the US.

About the Brand:

TwinMedix was founded by twins, Michelle Shaffer and Tammy Fleming's in November 2018. Seeing how their skin was affected by stress, the twins were inspired to create a line that could tackle a wide array of skin issues. Using the knowledge she acquired distributing Embryolisse for 15 years, Michelle Shaffer teamed up with the likes of pro artists James Vincent, who serves as their Creative Director, Danessa Myricks, Ve Neill, and Kevin James Bennet to create dynamic formulas that utilized both old and new traditions/ technologies.

Review:

To put it plainly, I didn't believe that I would love this product. I went in a skeptic because I already have my favorite moisturizing product, the Pacifica Coconut Probiotic Rehab Cream. As much as I enjoy Pacifica's moisturizer, it does have it's flaws. It's definitely not for oily skin people because of how thick the cream is. Additionally, the Pacifica moisturizer does take a few minutes to fully absorb. With that in mind, the TwinMedix Pro: Refine manages to satisfy all these needs!
Despite being a thick cream as well, the moisturizer absorbs almost instantly and feels very light weight on my skin. I can see it working well for people with oily and combo skin. As for people with dry skin, I would probably recommend you stick to a heavier duty moisturizer. While I do enjoy that the moisturizer absorbs rather fast, it's also to a detriment; I use a little more product than I would normally and I have to work extra fast to spread around my face before it's absorbed. Although subtle, the glow is definitely visible and I appreciate that this effect is achieved without the use of shimmer. It's definitely a your skin, but better appearance which I love! Whenever I want to spruce up a bit without doing much, I've been throwing on this moisturizer. Now the biggest reason why I've fallen in love with this moisturizer is that I've noticed the elasticity in my skin has improved. I believe I've addressed my skin issue before, but I do suffer from eye dermatitis. My condition, causes me to scratch my eyes regularly, which has left the skin on my lids a tad bit loose. My eyelids are so much firmer now! When I rub my eyes, it doesn't feel as though the skin needs a moment to move back into place which is a miracle in itself. Furthermore, my fine lines appear smoother long after the moisturizer has worn off.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, this moisturizer has earned its place in my makeup kit. I'm genuinely astonished by how well it works! Below this section, I'm going to include unedited before and after pictures of my smile lines and forehead creases so that you can see the difference two weeks of using this product has done to my skin. By no means are these pictures night and day, but the difference is there; my fine lines are smoother and my creases a little less as a result. While there are some cons to this product, I do firmly believe that everyone should consider giving this moisturizer a chance.

Linda Hallberg Cosmetics Mood Crayons Kit Review #indiefeature

Prior to writing/ publishing my reviews, I will normally test a product for a two week period to assure that my reviews are as thorough as possible. When it came to the Mood Crayons Kit, my testing period ended up taking a little bit longer than I hoped considering that I've had the kit since May. For this reason, it should come as no surprise when I say that this review is well over due.
Originally, when Linda Hallberg Cosmetics first launched the Mood Crayons Kit, it included a purple crayon named "Daring." While I don't have an exact date for this, the "Daring" shade was later removed from the kit and replaced with the red crayon named "Anger,"making the kit fully vegan. "Daring" to the best of my knowledge will be re-released sometime in the near future.
The Mood Crayons Kit which costs $45, includes five fragrance free multipurpose pencils, they can be used on your eyes, lips, eyebrows, and body. The pencils will dry down with a water resistant matte finish in minutes, according to the company and can be removed using an oil based cleanser. As mentioned above, this kit is now fully vegan and Linda Hallberg Cosmetics is a cruelty free company.

About the Brand:

Linda Hallberg Cosmetics was created by professional makeup artist and beauty blogger Linda Hallberg; the brand was officially launched on October 7, 2016. With her brand, Linda Hallberg set out to create products that she found were missing from the beauty market with an emphasis on her products being multi-use. From the beginning, Linda Hallberg Cosmetics have been a cruelty free company with aspirations of becoming fully vegan; they've been working hard to reformulate their non-vegan products since their launch. The brand ships world wide excluding Mexico, Russia, North Korea, Sweden, Norway, and Finland. They offer free shipping on orders over 100 USD / 85 EUR / 85 GBP / 599 DKK. They're products are manufactured in the EU with the exception of their brush hairs which are produced in China.

Shipping:

I placed my order on May 3rd, 2019  using Paypal and later that same day, I received an email notifying me that my order had been shipped. The package was shipped through FedEx International Economy and cost me an additional $10. Much to my surprise, the package was delivered by May 5th, 2019. For full disclosure, I cannot remember if the package came in a box or a padded envelope. What matters, is that it arrived undamaged at a speed that gives Amazon Prime a run for its money.

Description/ Initial Thoughts:

When I removed the kit out of it's packaging, I found that it's box was placed in a small plastic bag. Furthermore, the kit was inside a thin box with the company's logo printed on it. The actual container that held the crayons, had the exact same printing as the thin protective box on the outside . The backside included a description of the product, list of awards, and ingredients among other things. The inside of the kit features a large mirror framed by a beautiful rainbow swirl print. The crayons are set in cardboard padded grooves, with a diamond cut out in the middle featuring more of the rainbow print swirls. The pencils were well secured in these grooves as indicate by their names remaining right side up during their travel. I'm personally a fan of keeping the packaging products arrive in, but I will be the first to admit that the box while pretty, wastes a substantial amount of space. Opening the lids of the pencil, I noticed that the tubes holding the product are not made of wood, but some sort of plastic material. When sharpening these pencils, I do have to recommend that you use sharpeners made for delicate products. While they're not the most fragile pencils I've ever used, they still need to be handled with care.

Review:

When Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC) closed during April of last year, many amazing products were lost including their highly covenant Lip & Eye Pencils. Finding colorful liners can be a difficult task, let alone vegan ones. I was thrilled to have come across Linda Hallberg's vegan crayons for this reason.
The crayons are all very pigmented, the only shades that need some layering are "Calm" and "Happy." From my experience, the crayons dry much faster than a few minutes. After they've been applied, it feels like only a few seconds till they're dry. This can a bit a troublesome I must admit. When I've tried to go over areas, it feels like the crayons are forming layers making them slightly uncomfortable to wear. Furthermore, its difficult to use these crayons as base colors on the eyes because they don't blend well due to their dry time (it helps to use them on a wet base). On the other hand, the water resistant finish definitely helps with the durability. When I've worn the crayons on my waterline, the pigment will stay in place all evening, even with my watery eyes and the color is extremely vibrant which I love! Much like the Kat Von D Anti-precision Eyeliner I reviewed, I found that if I shut my eyes a little too hard, it feels as though my eyes want to stick together and the color will lift in certain areas making it patchy, but that's something easy to avoid. I have to applaud Linda Hallberg Cosmetics on their yellow shade "Happy." Despite needing some layering, it's extreme pigmented for yellow makeup. I've never owned a yellow liner before, this product is not only unique to my kit, but pretty unique to the beauty market.

Conclusion:

One of the reasons why I fell in love with OCC was their unique shade offerings especially among their Lip & Eye Pencils. Going through Linda Hallberg Cosmetics site, it's plain to see that they too are making strides toward being a truly unique brand. Despite the cons that I experienced, I do think that the crayons are good products, you just need to know how to work with their matte formula. I may purchase some of their metallic crayons in the future to see how the formulas compare, but I do believe the crayons are worth trying.

Tailored Brows Review #indiefeature

When I started this blog, it was with the intentions that I could share my interests and opinions on makeup; I wanted to reach a wide audience who shares in my concerns regarding where and who they support with their money. For the past 2 years now, my content has centered around makeup though I have written about other topics in the past, still surrounding beauty. I've always been a firm believer in never putting your eggs in one basket which is why I want to expand upon my writing to include beauty products that aren't necessarily makeup. Today's article will not disappoint and I firmly believe this article will be a game changer in my writing as we discuss the growing market for eyebrow wigs.
After posting a picture of myself wearing out my Tailored Brow eyebrow wigs, the company and I began messaging each other on Instagram. I was fortunate enough to secure an interview with the owner of Tailored Brows which you can read below.

Interview

Before we begin, I have to say thank you first and foremost for agreeing to an interview.

I'm a mother of 3 Gremlins ( yes they are really cute gremlins) ages 5,6, 7, and I'm married. With just stating that you can already assume I have my hands full, daily. Lol So, I work a full-time corporate job, and I am working full-time to grow this brand. I went to college specifically for business. Running a start-up has it's difficulties, but it is also rewarding. I also have a YouTube channel where let everyone into my world.

For people unfamiliar with you, can you tell us about yourself and your career thus far?

Honestly, I was into making lace wigs first. I came across a lady on YouTube who ventilated wigs. On one of her videos she showed how to make eyebrows, and that's when a light bulb went off. I always got compliments on my natural eyebrows, because they're thick and full. So, I wanted to give the same to the world. I started off making my own eyebrow wigs. The task was tedious, but what was awesome is that I sold my first pair of eyebrow wigs to a this guy, who performed drag shows. Was definitely exciting and unexpected.

What prompted you to begin a company making eyebrow wigs?

The reaction to my Eyebrow wigs has been phenomenal. I get burned victims, those suffering from chemotherapy, alopecia customers, everyday women and men contacting me in desperation for a pair of my eyebrow wigs. It's definitely humbling and rewarding at the same time. Not only that, but there's a lot of folks out there who doesn't know this exists. One of my customers recently told me my eyebrow wigs are a God sent. That was motivating to me. I have a lot of work to do.

What has the reaction to your eyebrow wigs been like?

I tell everyone my Eyebrow wigs are the BEST quality compared to others. And my customers tell me this as well. All of the brows are handmade to perfection. The direction the hairs lay and the way they are hand-tied into the lace does not compare. Also, they last longer due to the durable lace that is used. Amazing craftsmanship.

How are your eyebrow wigs, different from others currently available on the market?

I am more financially stable. My mentality and perspective on life changed drastically. All I think about is how to make my business better. How can I grow it so that my kids and their kids are financially set. That is what runs through my mind constantly. I want to be an amazing business person, mom, and wife. I want to do it all. There's no more hanging out with friends, shopping sprees, etc.. It's my new life now until my goals are met.

How has life changed for you since opening up Tailored Brows?

Tailored Brows is going to dive a little deeper into the beauty world. Baby steps of course. I want to offer my customers a variety of products that focuses on their eyebrows. I going to become your go to brand for everything eyebrows. Let's be honest, our eyebrows are the first thing, besides our eyes, a person looks at. It gives us facial recognition and expression. So, it only makes sense to focus on that area of the face.

Can you share with us and details about how your business may expand in the future?

First Impressions

I placed my order on March 31st through the Tailored Brows Etsy account. My total came out to $25 with an additional $4 charge to cover shipping. On April 8th, my package arrived in a padded gold envelope. In the envelope was a thank you card and a black box similar to that of an eyelash box, it's stamped with the company's logo. When I opened the box, there was a business card/ certificate of authenticity, under that, were the eyebrow wigs. The box has a deep well, assuring that the eyebrow wigs won't be crushed by the lid, disfiguring their shape. To keep the eyebrow wigs from moving, they're held in place by a single glue dot on the plastic cartridge. The inside flap of the box has a stamped label stating that they're eyebrow wigs, made from human hair, that they're "tailored to perfection," with the owner's name Monuella Monsha right below. There is also a printed label stating the style and color of the eyebrow wigs.
As someone who's never owned eyebrow wigs before, I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I opened my package, but boy was I shocked and giddy! I could not believe how realistic they were, it was kind of scary. Of course, my first instinct was to pull the eyebrow wigs out and immediately place them on my arm to see how realistic they looked against human skin. I believe, the picture I provided below speaks for itself, it's quite convincing! I did notice the hair was slightly stiff around the tail, but I believe maybe some hair spray or gel perhaps were used to create the precise shape.

Review

While definitely a risk, I decided to wear my eyebrow wigs for the first time at the Texas Riviera Empire's Coronation event. Following an application tutorial provided on their Instagram account, I used eyelash glue to attach the eyebrow wigs to my bare brow bone. Prior to adding any glue, I coated the lace with a powder foundation to aid in camouflaging the knots at the root of each hair. I applied glue to the back each eyebrow wig and a little glue to my brow bone to create extra adhesion, ensuring they'd stay in place. The tails of the brow required extra attention when gluing them down, but for the most part, the eyebrow wigs were easy to apply. In retrospect, I wish I had waited to wear the eyebrow wigs. I was so flustered getting ready for my event, that I completely forgot to see how well the knots would bleach. I'm not sure how well they might bleach now, having been coated with eyelash glue on the back end, but perhaps I'll try in the future.
I tried cleaning the glue off using rubbing alcohol as recommended, most of it came off, but some is still stubbornly attached between the lace. If you own any dissolvable adhesive, it might be gentler to use and clean easier. I will admit, I used an aggressive brush (the ones used for edges) to pull off the glue as I was having some trouble removing the glue with my EcoTools nail brush, it did remove some hair. Between an aggressive brushing and an attempt at ripping off residual glue with my fingers, I'd say the brows held up pretty well. I would like to note, that after the cleaning, the eyebrow wigs, the hairs were starting to stand up. It's possible that I disrupted the knotted pattern of the brow hairs, but I believe it's more likely that some kind of gel or hair spray was used to lay down the hairs.

Final Thoughts

These eyebrow wigs are everything I hoped for! As an individual who has lazy days when it comes to drawing on new eyebrows, I'm excited to have these wigs at my disposal. Considering my reputation for manhandling my wigs, no pun intended, these eyebrow wigs seem like a perfect fit for my needs; durable, cruelty free, and vegan. or anyone interested, I have to say, GO FOR IT!

Wet N Wild Isn't Cruelty Free Anymore

Hello everyone, it pains me to write this article, but it's necessary to alert you all to the fact that Wet N Wild is no longer cruelty free. The news was broken by Cruelty-Free Kitty in this article here https://www.crueltyfreekitty.com/news/wet-n-wild-china-controversy/ it was accompanied by a set of photos depicting a Wet N Wild display case found in a store named Watsons, located in Shanghai China. Since this news has broken, there had been much speculation as to whether the products found were counterfeit or purchased under the table, but unfortunately, Wet N Wild confirmed today that Watsons is in fact an authorized retailer of their products despite months of denying selling in China. In an Instagram story message, Wet N Wild had this to say regarding the issue:
While on the surface, it would appear as though Wet N Wild retains their cruelty free status, their description of Chinese law is not accurate. According to Global Cosmetics News, "finished imported and domestically produced cosmetics" are still not exempt from animal testing. Despite post-market testing no longer being considered "normal practice," non-routine tests can still be issued; for example, consumer complaints. At no time, is the Chinese government required to let a brand know when these non-routine tests should occur, making it impossible to guarantee that your product is not being tested on an animal at some point. As much as I'd like to believe that this is a misunderstanding on Wet N Wild's part, there's no denying the fact that they lied about selling their products in China and Cruelty-Free Kitty pointed out the fact that Wet N Wild never recommitted to the Leaping Bunny program after being kicked off, which could also be indicative of their knowledge on the issue. While it's still unclear if this is an issue of miscommunication, what is clear is that Wet N Wild can no longer be considered cruelty free.
Another issue that I'd like to address quickly, is whether or not e.l.f. is still cruelty free. As the cruelty free community began digging through Watsons website, e.l.f. was found to be sold online Does this mean that e.l.f. is required to test on animals? E.l.f. like many other cosmetic companies, are taking advantage of a loophole; through e-commerce channels, cosmetics can be sold indirectly to China without being tested on animals at any time. They're not sold in any physical stores in China.

(Original post here https://www.instagram.com/veganmakeupshare/?hl=en)

I have to give a big thank you to Cruelty-Free Kitty for bringing this issue to light, Logical Harmony for following up with Wet N Wild and clarifying their cruelty free status, Vegan Makeup Share for sharing e.l.f.'s statement regarding their involvement with Watsons and allowing me to share her post, and to e.l.f. for responding hastily to questions, remaining transparent, and reaffirming their position to remain cruelty free and vegan. Please go show these lovely people some love!
At this time, Wet N Wild still claims to be cruelty free on their website and social media accounts,  if anything develops, I'll make sure to follow up with any updates.

* Update: For the time being, all past articles written about Wet N Wild products will be pulled from my website. While many would still consider Wet N Wild to be a cruelty free brand, I personally do not and no longer wish to generate interest in their products. Should Wet N Wild become what I consider, a truly cruelty free company, I'll restore my articles. I hope you all will understand!

Pacifica Alight Clean Foundation & Liquid Cover Lasting Concealer Review

Today, I've got a double whammy of a review for you guys, as I discuss my experience using the new Pacifica Alight Clean Foundation and Liquid Cover Lasting Concealer. Before we begin, I have to give a big round of applause to Pacifica, for their expansive shade ranges with these two launches. I'm genuinely happy to see them making efforts to include more skin tones and undertones in their complexion ranges, hopefully these improvements will be expanded with existing products. Also, while I am an influencer for Pacifica, I did purchase these products with my own money and I'm in no way being compensated for this review.
The Pacifica Alight Clean Foundation comes in 30 different shades (encompassing cool, warm, and neutral undertones) with 0.9 fl oz/ 28 mL of product for $16. The foundation promises a seamless, poreless, satin finish that'll last throughout the day and control shine. It's free from many harmful chemicals and claims to not only feel cleaner on your skin, but it will improve the texture after 6 weeks of wear.
Their Liquid Cover Lasting Concealer comes in 12 different shades (encompassing cool, warm, and neutral undertones) with 0.26 fl oz/ 7.5 mL of product for $13. This lightweight, buildable, high coverage concealer will hide all imperfections and leave your skin with a natural finish that won't crease. Pacifica is a cruelty free and vegan company that offers a recycling program on old packaging; they are produced in the US.

First Impressions:
Unfortunately, the new Pacifica foundation and concealer was not available in any of my local stores to swatch. However, I must commend Pacifica for choosing to use influencers for the foundation swatches on their website. While it's great exposure for the influencers used, it made finding a foundation shade much easier in my opinion. By looking through the Instagrams of the influencers used, I was able to see what shade they wore in other foundations, which helped me narrow down my choices. I placed my order on March 14, with my items being shipped the next day. The items were delivered by March 18 safe and sound. To Pacifica's credit, they do accept Paypal payments through their website.
The bottles are simple, but stylish. I appreciate that the foundation comes in a glass container with a pump because I find this more sanitary. The concealer comes in a plastic package with a nice doe foot applicator which holds a decent amount of product. The foundation has a faint smell of coconuts, while the concealer has no smell at all. I would describe both as having medium coverage, but you can build them up, while maintaining a natural coverage. I will say that the foundation I ordered (26 NM) was not very neutral in my opinion. It seemed to have quite a bit of yellow in it which made it rather obvious I was wearing makeup since my face didn't match my neck, I did not have this problem with the concealer that I bought (20 NF).

Review:

I wore the foundation and concealer for two weeks straight; using different setting powders and setting spray combos each day to see what worked best for these products. In total I used three different setting powders (Wet N Wild's Photo Focus Loose Setting Powder, E.L.F.'s Beauty Shield Setting Powder, and Cover FX's Perfect Setting Powder) and two different setting sprays (Urban Decay's All Nighter Setting Spray and Kat Von D's Lock-It Makeup Setting Mist). I even paired it with Milk Makeup's Hydro Grip Primer toward the end of my review which produced much better results. My normal prep routine consists of using Witch Hazel Oil, Heritage Store's Rosewater and Glycerin Spray, and Pacifica's Coconut Probiotic Rehab Cream.
Like so many other foundations I've tried, I struggled with settling and creasing in my fine lines throughout the day. The concealer on the other hand did not crease in any way I used it. It looked flawless from start to finish with minimal settling that you'd need a really good mirror to catch! The foundation seemed to cake up on my cheeks, however this along with the creasing were minimized using a brush to set the foundation. For whatever reason, the more powder I packed on the foundation became more problematic. One thing I wish I had been more vigilant of was the fact that both the foundation and concealer have flashback to them. I say this because I used them during a photo shoot not thinking and I came out looking like flashback Mary. To the products defense, they may have flashback, however they don't dry down darker or oxidize, which is a plus in my book. Another problem I ran into was that no matter how I applied the foundation, the product would settle around my nostrils. When I used the Hydro Grip Primer, the foundation did not crease at all and the settling was minimized. From my experience, the best way to apply this foundation is to use a good primer, apply it with a brush for a fuller coverage, but to go over it with a beauty sponge to pick up any excess, and set the foundation lightly with powder. The concealer isn't to watery so feel free to blend away using a beauty sponge without worry, it won't be severely absorbed.
I have not worn the foundation long enough to say if the skin repairing properties is true, but I did feel as though my skin tone was becoming more even throughout my wear test. As stated earlier, the foundation didn't hold well on my face, which is prone to creasing unless I used the Hydro Grip Primer. However, I will say that this foundation controlled the oil on my face quite well, especially on my nose, I did not need to blot like I do with most hydrating/ illuminating foundations.Currently, I'm repainting the outside of my house and as you imagine, the hot sun has me sweating profusely, but this foundation and concealer didn't break down on me despite the less than optimal conditions.
I did review the ingredients of both the foundation and concealer to see if the clean ingredients claim was true. Using the Environmental Working Group's website as a reference, I did not find any ingredients that would cause me any concern. Both products are free from most irritants including silicones, phthalates, parabens, sulfates, and petroleums. They do utilize Phenoxyethanol as a preservative, however the amount used is low as indicated by its placement on their ingredients list.

Final Thoughts:

Even though the foundation didn't work the best for me, I'd still recommend this product. I believe this foundation has the potential to work on many different people and different skin types, but for individuals that struggle with creasing like me, you may need to pair this foundation with a good primer. The concealer on the other hand has blown me away! For natural, every day makeup, the concealer will stay in my kit as it perfects the skin without looking heavy or creasing on me. For the price and quality, I'd say both these products are worth trying, hopefully they'll work for you!
