Half Caked Candy Paint Review #indiefeature

Hello my little Valentine's, thank you for coming back to another review! I know that I've been saying this a lot lately, but I'm sorry for all the delays between articles. My life has only gotten crazier since I began this website, it's been difficult to sit down and write. By no means am I'm complaining, I've been booked and blessed, up until recently. With the COVID-19 pandemic closing down the local bars and shops, I'm going to use this chance to finally write this article. Because of how long it's been since I received these products in the mail, I don't quite remember all of the shipping details. Rather than trying to piece together my memories and possibly getting some information wrong, I'm going to omit the section about shipping from this article. I apologize for that! All I can say, is that there were no issues ordering from their website.
I've been a fan of Half Caked for a while, I'm talking back when they still went just by Caked. I got turned onto them, by the amazing hub of information that is Stephanie Nichole, back in 2016, when she gave their liquid lipsticks a glowing review. When I saw that they were coming out with cream blushes in adorable heart shaped packaging, I was all over it! What can I say, I'm a sucker for packaging. Plus I love cream blushes because of how natural and long lasting they tend to be.
The Candy Paints come in four different colors: Disco Lemonade, Dollhouse, Millions of Peaches, and Velvet Tiger. The Candy Paints offer buildable coverage which can be used on both your cheeks and lips for a flushed glowing look. They're formulated without silicone, fragrance, parabens, and alcohol. Each Candy Paint contains 5 g / 0.18 oz of product and cost $8 each, $1.6 for each gram. Half Caked is a cruelty free and vegan company.

About the Company:

Half Caked was founded by Nicole Masifilo back in 2016. Nicole's sister Erica Lynn joined the company in 2017 and the two have been working together ever since. They're goal is to offer high quality and cute makeup at an affordable rate.

Initial Thoughts:

The packaging lived up to my expectations to say the least! They're like a polly pocket toy and I absolutely love staring at them. Upon inspecting the packaging, I did notice a couple interesting things. There is no expiration label on the box or product component. Additionally, I noticed that the ingredients list (yes, I should've done that before ordering them) contains the color additive "ultramarine." This ingredient is restricted by the FDA as an "external" ingredient because it can absorbed through mucous membranes such as the lips. The FDA does allow some color additives to be used in products such as lipstick in limited amounts. I trust that Half Caked has done their due diligence to comply with FDA regulations, however I wanted to let you all know that the ingredient is in there in case it concerns you.
The Candy Paints were somewhat dry on the surface, but once I started digging into them, the product payoff was much better. Though it was never mentioned in the description of the products, I'd definitely say that they dry down to a matte finish (there wasn't much glow). I tried applying them with both my fingers and a sponge. While the body heat of my finger made the product easier to blend and gave a more natural appearance, my sponge applied the product much more densely which resulted in a better color payoff. Personally, I wish that the colors of "Millions of Peaches" and "Disco Lemonade" were a little different. The two colors in my opinion, are close enough to each other in shade that they look the same when blended out. In my opinion, you don't need both.

This closeup was taken in outside, after I finished my makeup. The blush was applied to both my cheeks and lips alongside a liner.

Review:

As mentioned above, these products do seem to dry down. I personally don't mind this because I'm someone who brings their blush out to my T zone and as I'm sure you all know, the T zone tends to produce the most oils. For that reason, I think that a semi matte finish is more appropriate than a glowly product for me, to ensure longevity on my combo skin. They certainly didn't seem to fade on my cheeks after prolonged wear and they stay feeling light weight. Now there's something we need to talk about. Point blank, I really don't like these products on the lips, for the exact reason why I like them on my cheeks. They're comfortable to wear for 3-4 hrs, but anything after that and I'm licking my lips frequently because of how dry they feel in addition to how dry they look. I don't know why they're so drying on my lips, they feel just fine as cheek color. Either way I have to be honest with you all about my experience. As far as pigmentation goes, while these are buildable, you can apply them quite densely and easily get up to a medium coverage, it just depends how much product you load onto your application tool. They blend out quite easily too because of how the product can be sheared. I do really wish there was a red blush to this set! I like a little color and feel as though the collection is just missing that pop.

Conclusion:

While the Candy Paints won't be replacing my lip colors any time soon, they've officially bumped down E.L.F.'s Cream Blush Palette as my favorite cheek product! They hold up well, provide desirable pigmentation, blend easily, and look fantastic. I wouldn't recommend buying all four colors as "Millions of Peaches" and "Disco Lemonade" are quite close in color, but for $8, I'd say they're worth trying, just proceed with caution if you're gonna use them on the lips.

From top to bottom (Millions of Peaches, Disco Lemonade, Dollhouse, Velvet Tiger). These were swactched with my finger on my bare arm.

The Best Highlighter You Never Heard Of!

Danessa Myricks Beauty Enlight Powder Review #indiefeature

In the age of the social media, the focus of marketing has shifted. To capitalize on this change, many companies are now utilizing "influencers" to help build hype around their brands and respective products. As the demand for makeup has skyrocketed, the industry has become more competitive than ever before with new faces popping up every single day. Despite this change in the industry, not everyone is building their platform in the same way. Relying on the owners own artistry for promotion, this brand than I'm going to talk about, is single handily one of the best companies I've ever come across and truly, they deserve all the praise they're given, that brand is no other than Danessa Myricks Beauty.
If you've been following me for a while, you might know that I'm completely enamored with Danessa Myricks and her company. Truly, I believe that Danessa's company is one of the most underrated brands in the industry and I'd love for more makeup lovers to discover this amazing brand. For those reasons above, I've decided to write this article on my Enlight Illuminator powder in Radiance that I've owned for about a year now. As someone who doesn't particularly care for highlighting, the Englight Illuminator powder has won me over by leaps and bounds to the point where half of my looks now include this product.
The Enlight Illuminator contains micronized pigments to provide a buildable, seamless, lit from with highlight. The Enlight Illuminators cost $26 for 10g / 2 oz of product. With thirteen shades to choose from, this line truly caters to every skin tone. Danessa Myricks Beauty is cruelty free and now fully vegan!

Review:

I've found the claims of this highlighter to be completely true. The biggest reason why I avoid the majority of highlighting powders is because I don't want to add texture to the face. While a glittery highlighter may pop the most, it also adds the most texture in my opinion. The Enlight Illuminators have a formula that not only manages to add brightness, but almost blurs the skin, which is why I've been reaching for this product non stop. The finish on the skin, I would say it's somewhat glass like because of how smooth and almost wet looking the highlight is. Luckily, the highlighters do have sifters in them, which is about all you really can do to contain a loose highlighter. I personally just ripped off the tab and I just try to be careful when opening it, but that's just my preference. Another reason why I love this product is, a little goes a LONG way. I'm not kidding, a single dip into the powder is enough to highlight my whole face. With that being said, I would also consider this trait to be somewhat of a hindrance. Be very careful when using this highlighter! While it's easy to blend, if you don't tap off the excess you'll easily over highlight your face because it's that pigmented. One thing that I don't care for with Danessa's brand is the ingredients are listed on her website. According to Beautylish, the highlighter only contains mica and titanium dioxide.

Conclusion:

This highlighter is stunning! If you want a bang for your buck, I've had this highlight for almost a year and I'm not even a 1/3 of the way done with it. It's literally everything that I've been looking for in a highlighter and I simply can't recommend it enough. Please do yourself a favor and try not only the highligher, but any product from Danessa Myricks Beauty because this brand is that good.

Pacifica Beauty Powder Review

Today's review has been months in the making. Today I'm not just reviewing one, but all four of Pacifica's nutritional supplements and you all best believe I have a very detailed review for you all. While I have received a PR package from Pacifica in the past, I paid for the Beauty Powders using my own money. All opinions shared are my own, I have not been compensated in any way to review these products or write a positive review. Pacifica's Beauty Powder line consists of "Wake Up Beautiful," "Slay All Day," "Glow Greens," and "Seek Balance." Each nutritional supplement costs $19.99, are gluten free, and have no added sugar. The product weights vary between each Beauty Powder; "Wake Up Beautiful" contains 111 g/ 3.9 oz of product, "Slay All Day" contains 103 g/ 3.6 oz of product, "Glow Greens" contains 108 g/ 3.8 oz of product, and "Seek Balance" contains 82 g/ 2.8 oz. Further down the article  I will be listing the number of scopes I pulled out of each container. The Beauty Powder line has not been evaluated by the FDA. Therefore, they cannot claim any medical benefits online or on the labels. While I cannot confirm the medical benefits you should receive from each bottle, I will be sharing my experience using each one of them. Pacifica is a cruelty free and vegan company and their products are made in the USA.

Break Down:

For anyone at the store wanting the short answer of whether or not these products will work for you, I'm going to post three lists based off my experience and personal opinions.

Most Effective:

1. Wake Up Beautiful
2. Slay All Day
3. Seek Balance
4. Glow Greens

Number of Scopes (May vary depending of how compact and even your scopes are):

1. Seek Balance (29 scopes)
2. Glow Greens (28 scopes)
3. Wake Up Beautiful (27 scopes the first time, 24 the second)
4. Slay All Day (26 scopes)

Taste:

1. Glow Greens
2. Wake Up Beautiful
3. Slay All Day
4. Seek Balance

Review:

I was first introduced to the Pacifica Beauty Powders by Creestaaal Sanchez aka @veganmakeupshare from Instagram. I do have insomnia and since middle school, I've had a lot of trouble sleeping. When Creestaaal started boasting about the effectiveness of the "Wake Up Beautiful" powder, I knew I had to give it a try!
The "Wake Up Beautiful" powder has done wonders to help me fall asleep regularly. The first time I tried it, I fell asleep in about 30 minutes! After my first try, it's taken me about 1-2 hours to fall asleep. The "Wake Up Beautiful" powder has a pretty decent taste too. Sort of a slightly bitter kool-aid. I will be honest in saying that this powder alongside all the others, doesn't fully dissolve. It's not the worst in terms of undissolved particles (that would be "Glow Greens"), but I do want to make note of this because it may bother some people. Prior to drinking this nutritional supplement, I don't believe I've taken melatonin prior which make explain why it was so effective the first time. To test how well this product really works, I took it upon myself to buy melatonin pills. I wanted to see if there was really something special about Pacifica's "Wake Up Beautiful" Powder or if it was just a more expensive version of melatonin. Let me tell you, the difference is night and day! The "Wake Up Beautiful" powder not only works faster, but I don't find myself waking up after I've fallen asleep. Is it more expensive to buy the powder over pills? Yes, but for someone who struggles sleeping, I don't personally mind paying a little extra if I can wake up the next day feel energized and fully awake!
"Seek Balance" was the second Beauty Powder I tried. Unlike the "Wake Up Beautiful" I really don't care for the taste of this powder. In my opinion the taste reminded me of coconut water, but with a vanilla aftertaste. As stated at the beginning of this article, medical benefits cannot be claimed because the products aren't FDA evaluated. For that reason, it was difficult for me to figure out how the nutritional supplement was supposed to work. I'd say I went a good week or so drinking this powder not knowing what was supposed to be happening. It wasn't until I ate a particularly spicy burrito at Chipotle that I finally found a purpose for the powder. My stomach got really upset that day, but after I drank this powder, I noticed how much better my stomach felt afterwards. Perhaps someone with a medical condition can find more use for this product, but as for me, the powder doesn't do much and I won't be buying this one again.
"Slay All Day" has always been a bit of a difficult one for me. While I would like very much to believe this powder works as I always feel calmer after drinking it, The speed of it's effectiveness is what makes me skeptical. I feel immediate relief which leads me to believe that I'm unintentionally calming myself down after drinking this powder; deep breaths, clearing my mind, etc... I initially thought that this powder would end up being my most favorite flavor, however the taste is a bit strong, kind of bitter. I will say that in terms of undissolved particles, this was one of the least problematic. I may buy this powder again, but it just depends how bad I need the extra stress relief. Overall I'm just unsure if the powder works.
I want to preface this last review by saying I had very low expectations for that taste of this powder. When I read the ingredients for "Glow Greens" I was sure that this powder was going to taste very much like spinach and I hesitated to buy it for this reason. I was prompted to finally pick up this powder simply to write this review. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this powder tastes like a sweet lemonade. If I really try to focus on a flavor, I can kind of taste vegetables, but it's really delicious overall! Now as delicious as it is, this powder has quite large particles in it. I have noticed that while I'm drinking this powder, I'm more on the regular side so to speak when using the bathroom. I was hoping that this powder would improve the quality of my skin, but unfortunately, my skin doesn't glow anymore than before, As to whether or not I'd buy this powder again, I have the same sentiments towards this one that I have towards the "Slay All Day." While I do enjoy it, I'm not sure I can justify another purchase.

Conclusion:

Of the four Beauty Powders I purchased, the only one that I'll definitely buy again will be the "Wake Up Beautiful." This is not to say that the other powders are not good or will not work well for you, but I really needed to see better results from the other three powders to justify the price. As much as I liked the "Wake Up Beautiful" I will be writing an article in the near future, comparing Pacifica's new "Dream Sleep" beauty gummies to this powder to see which one works better. Please stay tuned for that review!

Twin Medix Pro: Refine Moisturizer Refine #indiefeature

Before I begin this review, I need to disclose that this product was sent to me by TwinMedix. I was not compensated in any way to promote this product or write a positive review, all opinions shared are that of my own opinion.
Hello everyone, I'm really excited to write this review! I know I say that often, but today's quite the exception. Today's review was made possible by another article I wrote back in 2018 "Medix Beauty App Review". TwinMedix launched their online educational app a couple years ago under the name Medix Beauty which I was quick to review. Despite my criticisms of their app at the time, TwinMedix was very appreciative of my honesty and we've continued shooting messages back and forth since my initial article. They asked me about a month ago if I would like to receive a PR package and I was more than happy to oblige. Any company willing to use criticism to better their product and continue working with honest influencers earns a point in my book!
The Pro: Refine Moisturizer was designed with makeup artists in mind to not only prime the skin by plumping and firming, but to add a subtle glow and moisture for 24 hours. The moisturizer can be used day or night on a clean, dry face and is free of parabens and fragrance. You also get the option to choose between two sizes, a 1 oz/ 30 mL bottle for $18 or a 2 oz/ 60 mL for $30. TwinMedix is cruelty free, vegan, and made in the US.

About the Brand:

TwinMedix was founded by twins, Michelle Shaffer and Tammy Fleming's in November 2018. Seeing how their skin was affected by stress, the twins were inspired to create a line that could tackle a wide array of skin issues. Using the knowledge she acquired distributing Embryolisse for 15 years, Michelle Shaffer teamed up with the likes of pro artists James Vincent, who serves as their Creative Director, Danessa Myricks, Ve Neill, and Kevin James Bennet to create dynamic formulas that utilized both old and new traditions/ technologies.

Review:

To put it plainly, I didn't believe that I would love this product. I went in a skeptic because I already have my favorite moisturizing product, the Pacifica Coconut Probiotic Rehab Cream. As much as I enjoy Pacifica's moisturizer, it does have it's flaws. It's definitely not for oily skin people because of how thick the cream is. Additionally, the Pacifica moisturizer does take a few minutes to fully absorb. With that in mind, the TwinMedix Pro: Refine manages to satisfy all these needs!
Despite being a thick cream as well, the moisturizer absorbs almost instantly and feels very light weight on my skin. I can see it working well for people with oily and combo skin. As for people with dry skin, I would probably recommend you stick to a heavier duty moisturizer. While I do enjoy that the moisturizer absorbs rather fast, it's also to a detriment; I use a little more product than I would normally and I have to work extra fast to spread around my face before it's absorbed. Although subtle, the glow is definitely visible and I appreciate that this effect is achieved without the use of shimmer. It's definitely a your skin, but better appearance which I love! Whenever I want to spruce up a bit without doing much, I've been throwing on this moisturizer. Now the biggest reason why I've fallen in love with this moisturizer is that I've noticed the elasticity in my skin has improved. I believe I've addressed my skin issue before, but I do suffer from eye dermatitis. My condition, causes me to scratch my eyes regularly, which has left the skin on my lids a tad bit loose. My eyelids are so much firmer now! When I rub my eyes, it doesn't feel as though the skin needs a moment to move back into place which is a miracle in itself. Furthermore, my fine lines appear smoother long after the moisturizer has worn off.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, this moisturizer has earned its place in my makeup kit. I'm genuinely astonished by how well it works! Below this section, I'm going to include unedited before and after pictures of my smile lines and forehead creases so that you can see the difference two weeks of using this product has done to my skin. By no means are these pictures night and day, but the difference is there; my fine lines are smoother and my creases a little less as a result. While there are some cons to this product, I do firmly believe that everyone should consider giving this moisturizer a chance.

Linda Hallberg Cosmetics Mood Crayons Kit Review #indiefeature

Prior to writing/ publishing my reviews, I will normally test a product for a two week period to assure that my reviews are as thorough as possible. When it came to the Mood Crayons Kit, my testing period ended up taking a little bit longer than I hoped considering that I've had the kit since May. For this reason, it should come as no surprise when I say that this review is well over due.
Originally, when Linda Hallberg Cosmetics first launched the Mood Crayons Kit, it included a purple crayon named "Daring." While I don't have an exact date for this, the "Daring" shade was later removed from the kit and replaced with the red crayon named "Anger,"making the kit fully vegan. "Daring" to the best of my knowledge will be re-released sometime in the near future.
The Mood Crayons Kit which costs $45, includes five fragrance free multipurpose pencils, they can be used on your eyes, lips, eyebrows, and body. The pencils will dry down with a water resistant matte finish in minutes, according to the company and can be removed using an oil based cleanser. As mentioned above, this kit is now fully vegan and Linda Hallberg Cosmetics is a cruelty free company.

About the Brand:

Linda Hallberg Cosmetics was created by professional makeup artist and beauty blogger Linda Hallberg; the brand was officially launched on October 7, 2016. With her brand, Linda Hallberg set out to create products that she found were missing from the beauty market with an emphasis on her products being multi-use. From the beginning, Linda Hallberg Cosmetics have been a cruelty free company with aspirations of becoming fully vegan; they've been working hard to reformulate their non-vegan products since their launch. The brand ships world wide excluding Mexico, Russia, North Korea, Sweden, Norway, and Finland. They offer free shipping on orders over 100 USD / 85 EUR / 85 GBP / 599 DKK. They're products are manufactured in the EU with the exception of their brush hairs which are produced in China.

Shipping:

I placed my order on May 3rd, 2019  using Paypal and later that same day, I received an email notifying me that my order had been shipped. The package was shipped through FedEx International Economy and cost me an additional $10. Much to my surprise, the package was delivered by May 5th, 2019. For full disclosure, I cannot remember if the package came in a box or a padded envelope. What matters, is that it arrived undamaged at a speed that gives Amazon Prime a run for its money.

Description/ Initial Thoughts:

When I removed the kit out of it's packaging, I found that it's box was placed in a small plastic bag. Furthermore, the kit was inside a thin box with the company's logo printed on it. The actual container that held the crayons, had the exact same printing as the thin protective box on the outside . The backside included a description of the product, list of awards, and ingredients among other things. The inside of the kit features a large mirror framed by a beautiful rainbow swirl print. The crayons are set in cardboard padded grooves, with a diamond cut out in the middle featuring more of the rainbow print swirls. The pencils were well secured in these grooves as indicate by their names remaining right side up during their travel. I'm personally a fan of keeping the packaging products arrive in, but I will be the first to admit that the box while pretty, wastes a substantial amount of space. Opening the lids of the pencil, I noticed that the tubes holding the product are not made of wood, but some sort of plastic material. When sharpening these pencils, I do have to recommend that you use sharpeners made for delicate products. While they're not the most fragile pencils I've ever used, they still need to be handled with care.

Review:

When Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC) closed during April of last year, many amazing products were lost including their highly covenant Lip & Eye Pencils. Finding colorful liners can be a difficult task, let alone vegan ones. I was thrilled to have come across Linda Hallberg's vegan crayons for this reason.
The crayons are all very pigmented, the only shades that need some layering are "Calm" and "Happy." From my experience, the crayons dry much faster than a few minutes. After they've been applied, it feels like only a few seconds till they're dry. This can a bit a troublesome I must admit. When I've tried to go over areas, it feels like the crayons are forming layers making them slightly uncomfortable to wear. Furthermore, its difficult to use these crayons as base colors on the eyes because they don't blend well due to their dry time (it helps to use them on a wet base). On the other hand, the water resistant finish definitely helps with the durability. When I've worn the crayons on my waterline, the pigment will stay in place all evening, even with my watery eyes and the color is extremely vibrant which I love! Much like the Kat Von D Anti-precision Eyeliner I reviewed, I found that if I shut my eyes a little too hard, it feels as though my eyes want to stick together and the color will lift in certain areas making it patchy, but that's something easy to avoid. I have to applaud Linda Hallberg Cosmetics on their yellow shade "Happy." Despite needing some layering, it's extreme pigmented for yellow makeup. I've never owned a yellow liner before, this product is not only unique to my kit, but pretty unique to the beauty market.

Conclusion:

One of the reasons why I fell in love with OCC was their unique shade offerings especially among their Lip & Eye Pencils. Going through Linda Hallberg Cosmetics site, it's plain to see that they too are making strides toward being a truly unique brand. Despite the cons that I experienced, I do think that the crayons are good products, you just need to know how to work with their matte formula. I may purchase some of their metallic crayons in the future to see how the formulas compare, but I do believe the crayons are worth trying.
